A Sheryl filled day off...with a side of rain....

Sheryl, my mom and I decided about a week ago that we were going to get together today and go to Sylvan lake. We were planning to spend the day outside in the sun and in the lake swimming. As the week went on we realized that our plans were going down the drain because the forecast for today was going to be only in the teens and raining. So, we made alternate plans, Sheryl came and picked me up at my apartment at around 9:00am and we drove out to Devon. We didn't know what we were going to do for the day but just thought we would decide as the day progressed. When we arrived there Nicha Vant'Hoff was at my mom's house and we visited with her for an hour or so while her car was at the mechanics. After she left we went to the grocery store to by some things for breakfast for lunch, pork chops for supper and Haagen Dazs for Sheryl and I (my mom is smarter than us). During eating lunch and dessert we watched 'Up', my mom's first viewing of the movie. She liked it, but wasn't wowed...it's a funny one. We'd been sitting for a while and decided that we should take a walk, it was even a bit sunny out but not very warm so we bundled up in two hoodies each and gloves. We were plenty warm on our way down the 'campground hill' and when we reached the river we found a trail that led us to the waters edge. We sat for a good half hour and talked family and talked to God. It was so beautiful and we all decided we needed to go on a girls canoe trip down that river, which will be awesome! We watched some dark clouds roll in and as the rain started to trickle we decided to head home, it started to rain pretty steadily on us but not to hard. We made our way up the hill as the rain subsided, right when we needed it to cool us down while working on the incline. As soon as we got to the top of the hill the rain came pouring down, in gusts and whirl winds of what I can only describe as a down pour of heavy water, but are we the type to run? No we are not. We walked at a steady but normal pace down the street to my parents home, getting literally soaked from head to toe. It was so beautiful and wonderful. I felt really happy, couldn't stop smiling. Once we got home we all got on pairs of mom's sweat pants and threw our wet jeans and hoodies into the dryer. Sheryl and I decided we would stay for supper, for the meal and to let our clothes dry too! The meal was wonderful and at about 7:00pm, after loading the pictures of Jessie and Steve's wedding onto facebook we decided to head on home. On the way, after turning onto Garden Valley road, a deer ran across the road in front of the car, Sheryl has quick reaction and good reflexes!! After that, on the way to my house after getting on Anthony Henday the rain started coming down harder than I have seen in a long time, I would call it a torrential down-pour, we could hardly see the road, the lines, even the side of the road, which was deep mud because we were in a construction zone. I helped guide Sheryl in between the lines and she drove with mad skills through the swimming pool that our road had instantly become. Once we reach the guts of the city the rain slowed to a complete stop and we were finally able to see through the windshield again! What a day it was, thanks lady, it was a great one to be remembered! Love you! (Love you mom.)
